Bradford Dudley Hill coach Paul Baxter is relishing the opportunity to clash swords with his former mentor Kelvin Lockett, who returns to Parry Lane in charge of Dewsbury Celtic in the opening round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Baxter, who has the luxury of a full-strength squad with the return of packman Danny Herbert, said: "Kelvin is a Dudley Hill institution, having coached us to the 1997 National Cup final.

"I have played under him since I started at ten years of age and I know that he will have Celtic spraying the ball about the field.

"But I believe our superior fitness and the fact we can match them in the passing game will see us through."

West Bowling, who have never lost to their Cumbrian hosts, make an early start on the long journey to Askam, relieved at the 2.30pm kick-off.

Coach Richard Heseltine is looking for a cup run as a welcome change in what has been an intense Conference Premier battle against relegation.

He said: "We will lack Lee Innes, who has to play for the Army, but Danny Ramsden has recovered from a bruised big toe.

"We will be at strength and raring to go with a third-round berth against one of the professional clubs our ultimate target."
