Donovan Ricketts has returned to City after being refused a work permit following his proposed move to Queens Park Rangers.
The Jamaican goalkeeper has not met the necessary Home Office criteria largely due to the lack of competitive internationals played by his country over the last two years.
His current work permit runs out at the end of the season but it cannot be transferred between clubs.
Ricketts will now compete for a first-team spot with new on-loan keeper Scott Loach, who made his debut against Shrewsbury last night.
