Kyle Nix notched his sixth goal of the season as City shared the spoils in a scrappy game.

But Eddie Johnson had to be stretchered off on his return to the first team after missing the last two months.

Nix had earned a place in Stuart McCall's starting line-up after scoring late on against Bury.

And the little midfielder made the most of his chance by clipping a deflected equaliser four minutes into the second half.

City improved after the break and they needed to. Wrexham weren't much better in a poor opening 45 minutes but they grabbed the lead when Stuart Nicholson bundled home from close range after Donovan Ricketts parried a shot from Neil Roberts.

Drewe Broughton, making his Wrexham debut, had earlier clipped the bar. City's best reply came from Barry Conlon's header straight at the keeper.

City picked it up after the equaliser but suffered a huge blow just after the hour when Johnson stayed down after a challenge with Richard Hope.

Johnson had looked good on his return and Stuart McCall will be keeping his fingers crossed that it does not signal another lengthy absence.

Omar Daley nearly scored for City late on but Wrexham also had their chances, with Ricketts lucky to escape after the ball got stuck under his feet.

CITY: Ricketts, Williams, Wetherall, Clarke, Heckingbottom, Colbeck, Bullock, Johnson, Nix, Daley, Conlon. Subs: Evans, Topp, Ainge, Starosta, Saynor.
