It will be a very special day at Horsfall Stadium a week tomorrow, with two of England 's 1966 World Cup-winning team in attendance.

Hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst and former Leeds United legend Jack Charlton will make a special guest appearance before Avenue take on Bridlington Town in UniBond Division One North.

Avenue supporters will be encouraged to buy a photograph which will then be signed by one of the World Cup winners.

Both Jackie and Sir Geoff will see local schools kicking footballs through the holes in a giant BPA logo.

The young would-be footballers who kick most balls through the hoops in the target will win a share of £1,000 prize-money for their school that the club is putting up for the event.

Charlton and Hurst are contracted to be at Horsfall Stadium from 11.45am until half-time.

This is just the latest in a long line of initiatives that the club have pioneered in their centenary season.

One of the most popular was the issue of 20,000 complimentary tickets.

Chief executive Bob Blackburn has been actively involved in every event this season but the ticket distribution was one he really pushed.

The average gate doubled and, as Blackburn thought it would, it has brought fresh interest in the 100 year old former Football League club. The new owner wanted to introduce younger Bradfordians to Avenue and said that these new supporters would be the future lifeblood of the club.

The free-ticket issue ran through November and Dec-ember and Avenue's attendance was higher than many clubs in the UniBond Premier.

Last Saturday there were no complimentary passes included in the figure but it was still a healthy 546.

It was a shame that Avenue could not give the supporters a victory over title-rivals Curzon Ashton but the game was still a great advert for the UniBond League.

The 2-1 defeat was a disappointment for manager Benny Phillips but he believes his squad is strong enough to bounce back and take the title.

This week there has been more movement with Chris Williams being signed but to balance the books some players may have to go out on loan for a spell. No doubt some of those deals will lead to permanent transfers.

Striker Griff Jones who has battled against injury since the pre-season friendlies could go to get games under his belt as he seeks match fitness.

Guiseley are keen to take Liam Flynn on loan but nothing has yet been tied up and both players remain in Phillips' long-term plans.
