The club that made a rapid rise up the lower levels of the pyramid system and should remain an example of what can be achieved with dedication and a good selection policy is in great shape.

That was the half-term report delivered by manager Paul Schofield, and he should know.

He was a player in the early days of the Cobbydalers' push for non-league status, assistant to manager Andy Geary, who engineered several promotions, and then placed in charge of the youth project.

Now that Silsden are knocking on the UniBond League door, he is in the hot-seat himself.

"I know the academy players are good enough because half of them are already in the first-team squad and more are coming through," said Schofield.

"We have come a long way and there have been some very good players involved in the journey, but, as far as numbers go, "I think we are stronger than we have ever been. We haven't just got a big squad, we have got a group of quality players.

"These days, when they are all fit, free from suspension and available from work and family commitments, we are embarrassed with riches.

"I'm fortunate because I have inherited a club playing at a very good level at a big stadium.

"Even when they are not all available, I have to leave players out of the squad, never mind the team.

"This club has come a long way and a lot of people behind the scenes, as well as all the players down the years, should be very proud of what they have achieved."
