FORMER director of Colin Appleyard Motor Cycles, Stuart Feeney, sadly passed away earlier this month at the age of 76.
Stuart had been unwell for some considerable time. He was driving wagons when Colin left Alan Jefferies Motor Cycle shop at Saltaire to start the Keighley based Applyard organisation.
That move from driving to repairing and selling motorcycles with Colin Appleyard worked from day one. His son Kevin also worked alongside his father. Stuart was an accomplished sidecar competitor and competed in the Gerald Simpson Two Day Sidecar Trial with passenger Willy Steel.
Apart from selling motorcycles Feeny majored on Honda three wheel and four wheel farm machines. He was a well-known person at Leyburn and Hawes auction marts. Many farmers will remember the Feeny sales pitch which was furthered when the 175 cc Yamaha trials bike surfaced and proved ideal for rounding up sheep and cattle. A great and popular character. He will be remembered and missed by many.
