DOUGIE Lampkin gave one hundred and thirty one competitors a riding lesson at Dob Park on Tuesday by riding fourteen sections and three laps without dropping a boot.

Smooth and easy but those sections were eventually coated with mud, a legacy of the recent snowfall and heavy rain and did not get easier. Notable also that teenager Alfie Lampkin Took third place on the hard course and beat his uncle James by just one penalty.

Teenager Henry Stephenson won the Clubman A class from Ilkley's Daniel Hole and Barnoldswick engineer Anthony Ayrton. Harrogate sawmill owner Robert Hardisty just managed to beat Neil Gaunt and Phillip Hammond for the Clubman B award.

With so many entries, and packed car park, the starting order was that the twenty four hard course contenders rode the first seven sections in Dob Park while the Clubman A and B contenders were directed into Brown's for the other seven sections. The finale was the legendary Crosser's Rocks which were coated with mud.

In other news, The West Leeds Motor Club staged their annual Presidents Trial at a damp and cold Post Hill on Boxing Day as the club has done for many years.

Dense fog and light rain over the Leeds area did not abate and the cloud base hovered over Pudsey for most of the day. John Kershaw and his assistants Plotted the thirteen sections which were ridden three times.

Despite the heavy going only five competitors dropped out of the forty six starters Television ace road race commentator James Whitham dropped out but former sidecar trials star Robin Luscombe got his Bantam home in seventh place on the clubman route where Stuart Oughton won over Chris Johnson and Glynn Boughton. Former road racer Sam Ludgate topped the hard route from expert Liam Walker and Richard Mellon. Brother Ben Ludgate salvaged fourth place. Nigel Crowther just nailed the 50-50 class on a tie-breaker from Paul Kettlewell and Ben Francis. Paul has been notching some strong results lately on his Sherco machine. The Club thank Mick Kettlewell, Simon Cassidy,, Graham Wilson, Paul Whitaker, Bill Francis, Dennis Pitts, John Kershaw, Greg Kershaw, Nigel Greenwood, Andy Turner and Peter Walton for observing in such cold conditions.
