Guiseley 3, Ashton United 1

Guiseley lifted the monkey off manager Steve Kittrick's back by earning their first win since the new man took over.

The frustration and pressure has built up on Kittrick but mainly because there have been more postponements in his reign than games played.

However, three points finally brought relief as Guiseley beat the weather and the opposition by quite a comfortable margin.

The home side broke the deadlock in the tenth minute when James Hanson headed home a corner from skipper Richard Dunning.

Gavin Knight and Dean Walters both had chances but Ashton's on-form keeper thwarted them both. He was in the thick of it when Guis-eley added their second in the 27th minute. Knight switched the play from left to right, Mark Bett saw his shot parried by the keeper but Hanson was following up and grabbed his second.

Ashton pulled one back before the break through Dean Canning netted but Guiseley's third goal came in the second minute of the second period when Knight headed home a Bett cross.

Knight had the ball in the net on two other occasions but both strikes, following long punts up field by Guiseley keeper Steve Dickinson, were ruled out. The assistant-referee spotted fouls by the home forward in both incidences.

Two new signings almost made immediate impacts as former Bradford Park Avenue striker Tom Greaves had a header tipped over and Darren Thornton sent a shot just over the bar and had another one well saved.
