POOR Hamed Ghaz has missed out on his big IBO Continental Lightweight Title fight for a second time this autumn.
The initial fight last month against his Italian opponent Vincenzo Finiello was called off due to a late medical issue and positive Covid tests for some of the fighters on the bill.
But on Saturday, it was the adverse weather conditions that put paid to the much-anticipated bout between the Bradford man and Finiello at the Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield.
Promoter Dennis Hobson said on Saturday: “I’m absolutely devastated for Hamed Ghaz.
“This is the second time now that this fight has been postponed for him, and he is so disappointed.
“Cancelling a show is always a last resort, especially at this late notice, but we’ve all seen the terrible weather over the last 24 hours and we have to think about people’s wellbeing first and foremost.
“We had a show in Bolton last night and even now we’ve had reports of fans still making their way home after roads have been shut overnight.
“After discussions with the British Boxing Board, we’ve gone with this decision.
“I just want to send my apologies to the fans, who were looking forward to a great evening of boxing, and to all the fighters due to appear.
“Hamed is a tremendous talent who we know will be a future star – and he’s also a great young man.
“It’s another setback for him, but we’ll get him back as soon as we can and into title fights.”
