It will need more than a couple of wins to convince Stuart McCall.

The City boss is happy with the maximum-point start to 2008 but knows there is plenty more in the tank.

McCall will make that message very clear to his players before they step out at in-form Rochdale on Saturday.

He said: "I still believe there is a lot of room for improvement. Confidence is obviously good and we're looking forward to the next game but we're nowhere near the finished article yet.

"It was good to put a strong scoreline on the board last week. Without being disrespectful to Notts County, they weren't the strongest team we've faced this season - but there have been other games when we've been on top and not killed off the other team.

"We created a lot of chances and I'm delighted we took three of them but, watching it again this week, I know there is more to come from this team.

"The challenge is there to keep putting in the performances and getting the results. Confidence will build and expectations rise and see where you go from there."

McCall wants to see City go on the attack at Spotland against a side who are flying after back-to-back away wins. Rochdale's hot form will not persuade him to plan otherwise.

"Rochdale have been saying teams have gone there and sat in against them but we won't do that, we will go and be positive and have no intention of sitting back," said the City chief.

"We will have a good following behind us and will have a real go. We are playing with a bit of confidence and we're going there determined to win the game."

McCall watched Dale's nerve-jangling 4-3 win at Chesterfield last night and is predicting another end-to-end encounter.

He said: "You can see why Rochdale are doing so well and they try to play the right way. I can see it being an open, entertaining game.

"There will be times when we are under the cosh and will have to defend strongly - but we've had two clean sheets and, just as much as scoring goals gives forwards confidence, clean sheets are a real boost for the backline and goalkeeper.

"If we can put a run of three or four wins together then you'll see how far it can take you. Look at Morecambe, who've had a terrific run and pushed right up there. Now we've got to strive to do the same."

Eddie Johnson is likely to be added to the squad for the first time in two months.

Johnson, who has recovered from a back injury, played the full 90 minutes on Tuesday in a practice match at Keighley's Marley Stadium, one half up front and the other in midfield.

The bad weather has prevented McCall from having a proper look at the trialists currently with the club but he is hoping to get them back next week for an outing in the reserves.
