Dennis Wise continues to warn other clubs off making a bid for striker Jermaine Beckford - while hoping he has unearthed the next gem from non-league.

Leeds are locked in a battle with League One promotion rivals Nottingham Forest for the signature of Paul Taylor.

The 20-year-old Vauxhall Motors top scorer is having a trial at United this week after Motors turned down Forest's £50,000 bid.

Taylor, who quit football after being rejected by Manchester City two years ago, has scored 15 goals this season and is now hoping to follow in the footsteps of Beckford and return to the big time.

Speculation continues to surround Beckford, with Paul Jewell's presence at Leeds' 1-0 win over Crewe yesterday adding weight to rumours the Derby boss is about to make an offer for United's top scorer.

But Elland Road boss Wise insists Beckford, on target against Crewe, is going nowhere and said: "There's a lot of people looking at him but the problem for them is that he loves this football club.

"I keep being asked about Derby but, sorry Derby, we are a bigger club.

"If you were talking about the big four or five clubs, then maybe it's different, but I'm not going to let him go to a place like Derby. In fact, I'm not prepared to let him go anywhere."
