THE golfing season may be drawing to a close, but there was still plenty of action for the West Bradford Golf Club Ladies in September.
Two big showpieces took place towards the back end of the month, with the first being the Ladies Rabbits Cup final on Sunday, September 19, between Karen Nixon and Denise Dack.
It was a really close match, with both finalists playing very well, but congratulations go to Nixon, who won 4&3, and commiserations to Dack.
Both ladies played some cracking shots and although Nixon was three up after three, the remaining holes were all very closely contested.
The North Cup final took place just five days later, the last showpiece event of the season, between Debs Thompson and Marjorie Sunderland.
Both ladies played really well, with each producing some great holes. Congratulations go to Sunderland, who won the match 6&5.
Commiserations to Thompson, who played well too, but came up against an in-form Sunderland on the day.
In the Monthly Medal on September 7, the First Division was won by Pat Sutcliffe, with a fantastic score of nett 69, which was the only score under par.
The result meant she reduced her handicap index too. Jenny Chapman came second with a creditable nett 75.
The Second Division was closely contested, with only two shots separating the first three.
Lady captain, Jackie Mungovin, won the division, also with a creditable nett 75. Marjorie Sunderland was second with nett 76.
In the Monthly Stableford on September 21, both divisions were closely contested, with only one point separating the top three in Division One and two points in Division Two.
The winner of Division One was Jenny Chapman, with 32 points, on a countback from Trish Beckett.
Lady captain, Jackie Mungovin, came third with 31 points.
Carole Guest won Division Two with 35 points, closely followed by Marjorie Sunderland, with 34 points, and Helgi Sonsara, who scored 33 points.
The West Bradford 4BBB Medal event on September 28 had been re-arranged from September 14, when it had poured with rain.
This Tuesday was only marginally better weather wise.
The competitors had some dry bits in-between the rain, but unfortunately finished the last few holes in the heavier stuff.
This didn't seem to deter the winning pair of Lady captain, Jackie Mungovin, and Marjorie Sunderland, who came in with a level par nett 72.
Once again, the competition was very close, with only three strokes separating the top four scores.
Carole Guest and Jenny Chapman finished second with nett 73. In third place were Pam Sprint and Trish Beckett, nett 75, on a countback from Sheila Terry and Keiko Kozu.
In terms of mixed competition, the Ladies and Seniors Event on September 9 saw some excellent scores from the winning team.
The weather was kind too, with the forecast thunderstorms not arriving until after the event had finished.
The ladies thanked Andrew Haigh for organising the event, as well as all the gentlemen who took part.
It would appear both the Ladies and Seniors enjoy these events more when they are mixed team competitions, as opposed to Ladies versus Seniors.
Congratulations must go to the winning team of Marjorie Sunderland, Mavis Kunz, Peter Bower and Bob Helley, who came in with an impressive 95 points.
1st M Sunderland/M Kunz/P Bower/R Helley 95 pts
2nd J Saunders/C Guest/P Leskovac/I Peirson 88 pts
3rd H Shields/P Sutcliffe/R Baker/P Mungovin 87pts
The Annual Dinner and Prize Presentation for the club is on October 22.
