Leeds United will welcome back one of their great heroes tomorrow afternoon but this time John Sheridan will be manager of Oldham and hoping to put one over on his former club.

Sheridan was one of the few players to achieve legendary status the last time Leeds were wallowing below the top flight in the 1980s.

The Irish midfielder started his career at Leeds and in seven seasons played 276 games, scoring 56 goals.

Now, for the first time, he brings his young Oldham side to the stage he graced so often, saying: "It will be an experience for a lot of players who have never played at Elland Road. It is a great place to play football.

"If I had a choice, I would love Oldham and Leeds to go up this year. They are flying at the moment. Dennis Wise's team play right to the end and he has players who can be a big threat."

Leeds are still unbeaten at home and have won their last three matches at Elland Road without conceding a goal but Oldham have won their last five on the road.

Wise will rest Jonny Howson, who has had a scan on a shin injury he picked up in the 3-2 defeat at Swansea, but the midfielder should be back on Saturday when Alan Thompson is suspended.

Oldham will be without two of their most experienced players, former Leeds defender Sean Gregan and forward Andy Liddle, both of whom have Achilles injuries.
