Swansea City 3, Leeds United 2

Leeds United manager Dennis Wise condemned the dangerous tackle that led to 19-year-old Jonny Howson being carried off at Swansea.

The two-footed tackle earned Dutchman Ferrie Bodde a red card, but the League One leaders' ten men clung on for the points.

Leeds will assess the extent of Howson's shin injury, which was badly swollen after the match, but the Leeds-born youngster looks set to miss Tuesday's Elland Road game against Oldham, who lost at home to Walsall.

Wise said: "It was a terrible tackle on Jonny Howson - the sort that can break a leg - and Bodde deserved to go. We knew Swansea would make it difficult for us. They are a very strong team, which is why they are where they are in the table.

"Our defending let us down. We conceded free-kicks at the wrong time and got caught from a corner because certain people were not doing their jobs."

Wise isn't worried that United are six points behind the Swans, who have two games in hand.

He explained: "We have 37 points from 23 games so we have to try and get another 37 points from the next 23. If we do that we'll have a very good chance of being promoted."

Wise added that he hopes to bring in three or four new signings whose presence will give some of his players "a kick up the backside" and provide a timely boost.

Four goals came in an eventful first half. Andy Robinson's free-kick fired Swansea ahead after only nine minutes but Jermaine Beckford's 15th goal of the season arrived just three minutes later as Leeds drew level.

Poor defending at a corner by Rui Marques allowed Garry Monk to restore Swansea's advantage with a near-post header in the 23rd minute and when Bodde was sent off for his 38th-minute offence against Howson, it seemed Leeds would punish them.

However, more casual defensive work by Marques and Matt Heath allowed Jason Scotland to finish off a determined run with a clinical shot just before the interval. Alan Thompson's perfectly-delivered free-kick made it 3-2 immediately after the break.

United could not make their numerical advantage count and they will look to repair some of the damage against Oldham.
