Liversedge 2, Maltby Main 1
Sedge took three points off Maltby Main for the second time in a week to go into 2008 as serious contenders for promotion from the Northern Counties East Premier Division.
The recent form of Steve Newton's men has put them in second place - level on points with leaders Winterton Rangers - and Saturday's win was their fifth on the trot.
During that run, Nicky Boshell has been a central character and it was he who opened the scoring at Clayborn. The midfielder burst through the heart of the defence and saw his precise shot beat the visiting goalkeeper. However, the sides went in at the break on level terms.
In first-half stoppage time, Maltby equalised through striker Scott Somerville. He controlled a cross from Andy Hirst and then turned to shoot past Sedge goalkeeper Lee Ashforth.
The hosts dominated possession in the second half but they toiled to wrestle the initiative back.
They managed it minutes after they were denied a penalty when Boshell went to ground.
The next attack saw Andy Shuttleworth break from midfield to take control. He beat the last defender, side-stepped the goalkeeper and slotted home before a covering defender could make up the ground.
