Farsley boss John Deacey believes the feel-good factor has returned to Throstle Nest following Boxing Day's excellent victory over neighbours Halifax Town.

"I have said all along that Christmas would be a big period for us and that the squad would be stronger going into the New Year," said Deacey after the 3-0 win over the Shaymen.

"The players have done ever so well and this is a very hard time on them, especially when you are part-timers like we are. The lads have missed a lot of time with their families over the holiday.

"They have worked hard for the club and for themselves. They showed great resolve when the results were going against us. Their confidence never dipped at all.

"They knew they were playing well but things were just going against us as a club. We were getting players sent off at crucial times for things that were not their fault. The referees aren't to blame. They don't make bad decisions on purpose but there have been one or two bad calls against us."

The squad has been boosted by the return from suspension of former Leeds United defender Mark Jackson and the signing of midfielder Dominic Krief. Mark Hotte, though, is not available until the January transfer window opens.

Deacey, who himself has had a tough time since taking over from Lee Sinnott, hopes his luck is also changing.

He said: "We were 1-0 up against Halifax with an hour gone. James Knowles was struggling with a hamstring. We had a corner and I know Knowlesy is very good in the air so I decided to leave him on for the set piece.

"He jumped to guide a fantastic header into the top corner. I could say that was superb management but it was just one of those things that comes off for you."
