Bradford Park Avenue go into this weekend's trip to Wakefield needing a win to kick-start their holiday period - despite being on a run of a dozen games unbeaten.

A surprise home draw against UniBond Division One North basement outfit Radcliffe Borough on Saturday was followed by another stalemate on Boxing Day.

Avenue had to come from two goals down to gain a point at Harrogate Railway but, according to manager Benny Phillips, it was one hard earned rather than two dropped.

Phillips said: "There are different ways of looking at it. With only 30 minutes left and 2-0 down, we would all have settled for a draw. It was a good away point but what made it look worse was not winning at home last weekend.

"It will be the same against Wakefield. Some will see it as a game we should win but all it will be is another tough test for us. Teams are desperate to beat us at best and at worst make sure they don't lose against us.

"That makes it difficult - but we haven't gone 12 games unbeaten without good reason. We have risen to the challenge time after time and if we continue to do that we will pick up points.

"I just look at the next game; that becomes the most important. The players know what is needed, the coaches know what their role is and my job is to manage. That covers a wide spectrum but the bottom line is that I make the right decisions and get the best out of the players so that the club reaches its potential."

Phillips made three changes to the side after the disappointing home draw last weekend and that meant two players missed out on the squad altogether.

He may have to reshuffle his pack once more on Saturday. There are injury doubts after the 2-2 draw at Harrogate and others who have proved they are ready for a comeback. Decisions will have to made but Phillips will not be rushed into making them.

He said: "Lincoln Adams took a bit of knock on his knee and we will have to keep our eye on that before Saturday. It could be that Matt Daly comes back in."

Adams and Daly have been Phillips' preferred centre-back pairing recently but Daly, who was sent off for a professional foul against Radcliffe, was only on the bench in midweek.

Striker Ben Jones and winger Andy Lee were left out of the squad altogether but could be included this weekend.

Phillips said: "It would have been easier to leave the team the same after the Radcliffe game because Harrogate and Wakefield away were also games that would prove tough. But I made changes because we cannot afford to take our foot off the gas."
