Farsley Celtic 3, Halifax Town 0

The Celts enjoyed their Boxing Day derby fixture and made sure the Christmas puddings were nearest neighbours Halifax Town as Farsley banked a very welcome Blue Square Premier Division victory.

There have been slim pickings for Farsley in recent times but delighted manager John Deacey feels this win was overdue and marks a turning point.

"It's a very good feeling and it was a decent performance - a result like this has been on the cards," he said.

"We have played well in December and all we needed was to turn performances into results.

"Amjad Iqbal was outstanding in midfield, Lee Tuck up front was lively and a thorn in Halifax 's side and our back four were awesome. I suppose what I'm saying is that it was a team effort."

Winger Roy Stamer got the Boxing Day party started when he broke the deadlock in the 28th minute.

A free-kick into the area was helped on by skipper Ryan Crossley and Stamer bundled it over the line at the far post at the second attempt.

Stamer was also involved in the second. It was his corner that James Knowles met with a glancing header that flew in off the post.

That was just after the hour, and three minutes later the contest was over. Former Bantam Steve Torpey was aware when there was a defensive mix- up.

He got round the back of the Shaymen's keeper, who had collided with one of his defenders, to slot the loose ball into an empty net.

Celts keeper Tom Morgan saved a later penalty from Steve Torpey, the Town namesake of Farsley's former Bradford City striker. The spot kick was awarded for a foal by Ashley Allanson.
