BRIGHOUSE Town Women have just been on a brilliant FA Cup run, and their season could yet get even better.
Yesterday afternoon, the FA announced that all clubs currently participating in Tiers 3 to 6 (inclusive) of the Women’s Pyramid are permitted to apply for upward movement.
They added that the application will be marked against a criteria weighted 75 per cent on-field and 25 per cent off-field.
The on-field criteria will consider aspects such as points per game (PPG), cup performances and goal difference, across the last two seasons, while the off-field section will mark clubs on areas such as club structure, workforce and facilities.
Town's manager Rob Mitchell confirmed to the T&A that his side's application was almost complete, having taken a couple of weeks to pull together.
Certainly on the field, it is hard to argue with their performances in the FA Women's National League Division One North over the last two seasons.
They were sat third when the 2019/20 campaign was declared null and void, with 28 points from their 12 games, but had played less games than top two Barnsley and Leeds.
And this year Brighouse picked up 10 points from their five games before the 2020/21 campaign was curtailed, meaning they have the best points per game record in the division over the past two seasons.
Speaking to the T&A earlier this month, Mitchell said he felt his side were good enough to play in the division above, and they may now get that chance.
In the men's non-league pyramid, Liversedge may be in line for promotion from the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, alongside fellow high-flyers Yorkshire Amateur and Bridlington Town.
It was announced last night that the FA Council has approved plans to 'upwardly move' 110 clubs at Steps 5-7 (Sedge are Step 5).
At Steps 5 and 6, the combined PPG from the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons will be used to select which clubs can apply.
At Step 7, leagues will consider applicants on a more 'subjective basis', and Ilkley Town, who have been building a strong case to move up from the grassroots West Yorkshire League for a long time, will fancy their chances of securing a Step 6 berth.
