Vice-captain Ross Clegg believes the Avenue squad is the best he has played in under Benny Phillips.

He has played elsewhere for the Horsfall chief, including UniBond Premier Division Witton Albion last season.

But Clegg believes the current crop at Park Avenue tops the lot.

He said: "I have worked with the gaffer before at more than one club and he has been brilliant for me.

"He has helped me and brought the best out of me so it was definitely a big factor in me signing for Bradford.

"I have worked with some very good players in some fine squads but this is the best one the gaffer has put together."

Such is his confidence that the self-assured Mancunian believes Avenue can go one better than promotion.

He said: "I'm sure we can win the league, not just get promoted. I have good vibes about it. It's very exciting at the moment.

"This is a superb club. We have the best fans in the league, the structure is there, the history is there, everything is bang on. It's up to us now.

"I love it at Avenue and I'm enjoying myself. It was a good move for me coming here. We are all hungry and the team spirit is fantastic."

The 26-year-old paid tribute to the role the fans have played in the club's surge up the table.

"The supporters have helped and have really got behind us lately," he said. "There have been some good turnouts with six or seven hundred for the recent matches. We can definitely hear them every game because we get a good following away."

Avenue have shot up to second in the table, were named UniBond Division One club-of-the-month for November and keeper Jon Worsnop picked up the Macron sponsored safe hands' award.

But Clegg insists the players are keeping their feet on the ground despite the plaudits.

He said: "We have had some convincing wins and as a group of players we still think there is more to come from us. We have taken points off all our rivals just lately and that is important but no one should get carried away.

"The awards, the big wins, they are just secondary.

"Just as important is grinding out a 1-0 from a tough game. A lot of teams see us as the club to beat so we can't become complacent. The job is far from done."
