FORMER City player Stephen Ingle has died, aged 74, in South Africa.
He had tested positive for coronavirus after struggling to breath over the weekend. He passed away in hospital on Wednesday.
Ingle was born in Manningham in 1946 and turned professional with City at 18.
A right back who moved up front in emergencies, he made 96 appearances in three years for his home club, scoring 16 goals - including one in a 3-3 draw against Park Avenue in September 1964.
Ingle moved to Southend, Wrexham – where he is best remembered and played 149 times - Stockport, Southport and Darlington.
Ingle moved out to South Africa in the 1970s where he joined Arcadia Shepherds.
He was hospitalised for six months in 1995 after falling down a lift shaft.
He lived in Pretoria where he met his wife Alfie. He leaves three sons, Steven, Gareth and Mark, and three grandsons.
Speaking to the Wrexham Leader, his son Steven said: "He was a good man, my dad. People knew him as grumpy.
"He trod on toes, he was an individual, and he was definitely one of a kind. He was hard to get along with, but if you knew him he was a gem."
