WOMEN’S football resumed at the weekend for Bradford (Park Avenue) and Farsley Celtic Juniors in the North East Regional Women's League Southern Division.
Avenue were hoping to continue their fine form at Altofts, but they were unable to take advantage of a good first half, despite many chances, good play from Ami Nolan and Sam Woodham, and some excellent saves from Annie Roberts.
The second half saw lacklustre defending from a corner allow Altofts in for a tap-in, and the hosts doubled their lead after a defensive error.
Avenue played with five up front to try to get something from the game, but ended up losing 3-0, remaining fifth in the division.
Neighbours Farsley were four goals in arrears at Hull United, before their man of the match Bethany Waring scored a late consolation.
Burley Trojans, newly-formed from the ashes of Ilkley Town Ladies, played their first-ever game, a friendly away at Leeds City.
Beth Hirst scored their historic first goal in a 1-0 win.
Bradford City Women are back in action with two home games in the FA Women's National League Division One North on December 13 and 20, against Chorley and Barnsley respectively.
The reserves will be busy too, travelling to Durham and Brighouse before Christmas, followed by a home derby against Leeds in January.
City’s first team started the league season with a 1-0 loss at home to Chester-le-Street, before draws against Norton & Stockton and Leeds.
Those draws sandwiched a disappointing exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Sunderland West End.
City's boss Chris Hames was understandably disappointed to lose the momentum his team had built up, saying: “The decision to cancel football at our level was a blow.
“So much work had been done by the clubs, across our league, to make sure we were as safe as we could be each time we faced off in a game or turned up to train.”
Hames added: “All of our players work or are in education, alongside the commitment they have to give to playing at a good level, and football is their passion, their freedom.
“When that is taken away, and all you are able to do is work or study, it can be difficult.
“We have tried to combat the impact of that, as a team. We have set challenges and kept the players on their toes.
“The support network within the group has been great too, led by our skipper Katy Woodcock, and I know the girls value it.”
This Sunday, Brighouse Town Women play their FA Cup First Round Proper tie at league rivals Chester-le-Street.
Please check with clubs before travelling, as many games are not allowing spectators.
Farsley Celtic Women resume their North East Regional Women's League Premier Division games, as they entertain York.
The West Riding County Women's League will also see games at the weekend, including home fixtures for Phoenix, Thackley and Tyersal.
