Guiseley have appointed former Ossett Town boss Steve Kittrick as new first-team manager.

Kittrick succeeds Terry Dolan following his departure last month and will take training tomorrow night ahead of the visit to Ashton United on Saturday.

Former Bradford City and Bradford Park Avenue player Wayne Benn, who was assistant to Kittrick at Ossett, will be No 2 at Nethermoor.

Caretaker boss Mark Ellis will stay on at Guiseley as first-team coach.

A club statement said: "Steve brings with him a vast experience and knowledge of all levels of football, both local and national.

"His contacts with players in the local non-league scene will be invaluable in strengthening the Guiseley squad as the club seeks to put right the reverses of recent weeks and renew its challenge for automatic promotion this season."

Kittrick informed Guiseley's UniBond Premier Division rivals Ossett of his departure following the Wakefield club's West Riding County Cup 1-0 defeat at home to Avenue on Tuesday.

The timing of his decision is believed to have upset his former employers ahead of their crunch FA Trophy clash with Stafford Rangers on Saturday, December 15.

But Kittrick said: "I did nothing untoward. I've got friends at Guiseley that I speak to on a regular basis and was invited for an interview on Tuesday morning, where I was offered the job.

"I felt it wasn't right to tell the players before going into a match, so waited until after to inform them."

Kittrick was in his fourth season with Ossett, having joined the club as assistant to Steve Richards.

He was appointed caretaker manager during Christmas 2005 and led the team to the UniBond Chairman's Cup final against Blyth Spartans.

That saw him get the job at Ingfield on a permanent basis and he led the team to a tenth-place finish last season.
