Guiseley 0, Fleetwood 2

Guiseley caretaker boss Mark Ellis suffered defeat for the first time in his three-game tenure but it came in his first venture into management in the UniBond Premier Division.

Having masterminded a 1-0 win over higher-ranking opponents Worcester City in the FA Trophy and then dismissing lower-level visitors Goole in the West Riding County Cup since the sacking of Terry Dolan, this was a tough introduction to the pressures of league soccer.

The Nethermoor men had dropped to fifth in the table, partly due to their cup excursions, and Fleetwood Town were in second place.

The west-coast outfit had played the same amount of games as Guiseley, two less than leaders Witton Albion and three fewer than third-placed Marine.

It should have been a close encounter but the home side lost it in the first half as the visitors netted twice within an 11-minute spell.

Before the game was out of its first quarter, Peter Wright and Andrew Bell had both netted to put Fleetwood in the driving seat.

Sam Denton's early free-kick, which was blocked, James Hanson's shot wide and an Aron Wilford effort - the only one to force a save - were the sum total of half-hearted threats on the Fleetwood goal before the break.

It was one-way traffic in the second half as Guiseley asked questions of the Fleetwood defence but the damage had already been done.

Former Bantams winger Ellis brought on Mark Bett during the interval and Gavin Knight midway through the second half but the visitors' clean sheet remained intact.
