YORKSHIRE Amateur League Championship side Idle booked a place in the Bradford & District FA Saturday Senior Cup semi-finals after a surprise 3-1 win over Wibsey.
Previous to the match, both teams agreed to switch the venue to Wibsey’s ground at Bankfoot, after Idle’s pitch at Hanson School was waterlogged.
The visitors, who sit 11th, five points above bottom-placed Leeds Independent, put their league struggles aside to take the lead over their YAL Premier Division opposition through a Arron Irving finish.
Wibsey drew level when an Ethan Lee strike slipped its way past the goalkeeper.
The underdogs again gained the advantage on the stroke of half-time after Sam Luscombe went over in the box.
Jack Strudwick clinically put away the spot kick.
Jordan Broadbent sealed the victory with a superb solo effort, dribbling through the hosts’ defence and rounding the keeper to score.
Idle will have to produce an even greater shock when they come up against Supreme Division side Toller in the last four.
Field and Salts meet in the other semi-final.
In the Sunday version of the competition, Westwood gained a quarter-final place with a 3-2 victory against FC Wibsey.
Lewis Forsythe grabbed a brace to go along with Michael O’Brien’s goal while Ryan Greenwood and Devon Warner were on target for Wibsey.
Only two of the Bradford FA Sunday Cup’s four scheduled games were played, with Garden Shed and Thornbury Celtic booking their spot in the last eight with victories.
Shed beat Great Horton 3-2 thanks to goals from Danny Patterson (2) and Ryan Murgatroyd.
Danny Stoker and James Marshall netted the consolations for the defeated Horton.
Thornbury were forced into spot kicks for their passage through over RISlondon.
Jake West-Williams and Warwick Charlton were on the scoresheet for RIS.
Celtic relied on finishes from Waheed Khan and Adeeb Jawed to level the tie 2-2 after 90 minutes.
Imran Yousaf was the star for Thornbury as he saved the last two penalties in the shootout to gain a 4-3 win in the fourth round tie.
The postponed ties between Mill Lane v Thornton Utd and Salts U18 v Beldon Oddies, will be played at a later date.
