THERE was a distinct lack of Christmas cheer on display in the Yorkshire Amateur League Supreme Division at the weekend, as two games involving Bradford teams were abandoned.

Toller’s home game with Ryburn United did not even make it until half-time, while Route One Rovers were deep into the second half and 6-1 down, before their game at Littletown was stopped.

Toller, who had signed Wayne Sparkes a couple of days earlier, had netted an early goal through the prolific Kamran Khan.

It was a feisty encounter throughout, but Toller admitted that it was over enthusiastic home spectators encroaching on to the pitch after being asked not to which forced the abandonment in the 37th minute.

The no-result means Toller remain 10th, but drops Ryburn down to seventh.

Route One were 1-0 up in their game at Littletown but the hosts had edged 2-1 in front by half-time, before a regular supply of goals from then on eased them into a comfortable 6-1 lead.

But a clash with two minutes left escalated into a scrap between the teams and the referee called things off.

Route One stay fourth, while Littletown drop one place to third as a result.

Late goals from high-flying Stanley United saw them down visiting Athletico 5-2. It was level at half-time, with Tawheed Ahmed and Shamraz Hussain giving Athletico the lead twice, only for them to be pegged back both times.

The hosts went on to exert their authority in the second half though, earning a comfortable victory to leave Athletico down in ninth with 15 points.

Meanwhile, Stanley moved back up to second and have the top scorer in the league with Josh Whiteley (16 goals). But they remain 12 points behind leaders Farsley Celtic Juniors, despite having a game in hand.

Farsley have now won 12 league matches out of 12 after they thumped Steeton 7-0. Joe Firth grabbed a hat-trick as the Celts prepared superbly for the big upcoming County Cup clash with Ilkley Town.

Steeton remain 11th after the defeat.

Drighlington have at least stopped shipping goals for fun, but they remain second-bottom after losing 3-0 at fifth-placed Calverley United.

Finally, Horsforth St Margaret’s thrashed rock-bottom Lower Hopton 7-0.
