THE Bulls are still on course to resolve their dual-reg chase by Christmas.

John Kear remains in talks with a couple of Super League clubs about the possibility of a player link-up for next season.

Chairman Mark Sawyer revealed a potential deal is “getting there” but it still needs to be finalised.

He said: “John says he is hoping to have a decision by the end of the week. I’ve just left the negotiations with him.

“He’s working hard on it and he knows the ball is in his court. He knows it’s up to him whether we do it or not.

“It wasn’t quite there yet but should be sorted one way or the other within days. Everyone obviously wants to know where we stand with that.

“John wants it boxing off before Christmas with what we’re doing. We’re already into friendly season by then.”

The Bulls are among several Championship clubs rumoured to be interested in a dual-reg deal with Super League new boys Toronto.

Kear, who has always been open-minded about the situation, also revealed that he had held a dual-reg discussion with Hull FC coach Lee Radford when discussing new signing Levy Nzoungou.

The forward was the fifth winter capture for the Bulls, who have been lining up a possible package of loan deals from one club next month.

Sawyer added: “John is very relaxed with who he’s recruited.

“Talking to John, you find him relatively confident going into next season. Touch wood with injuries, he thinks we can go somewhere similar to last year.

“There might be the odd one still coming in but the priority is trying to arrange a dual-reg with somebody. We’re not far off but we’re not there yet.”
