A DREADFUL injury forced the abandonment of the Bradford derby between Route One Rovers and Toller on Saturday in the Yorkshire Amateur League Supreme Division.

Marcus Harper, captain of visitors Toller, sustained a suspected broken leg while running unchallenged with the ball. The player could not be moved and with an ambulance not forthcoming, Harper was taken to hospital in a car by two Route One players.

Toller's Gavin Meakin also went to hospital, after he was left pouring with blood from a head injury.

After these dramatic incidents, there was not enough time or light for the game to continue. At the time of the 65th minute abandonment, the score was 1-0 in favour of Route One courtesy of Danyal Yasin.

Route One had missed a penalty, while Toller had had a player sent off.

Stanley United remain third after a hard-earned 3-2 win at Athletico. The visitors took a 2-0 lead into the interval, before Brandon Dexter replied for the Bradford side in the 50th minute.

Stanley soon moved 3-1 in front, but the superb Tawheed Ahmed reduced the deficit again in the 75th minute.

Athletico's lack of a regular goalscorer this season came back to haunt them, as they failed to find that precious equaliser. They remain in ninth.

St Bede's edged back to the top of the Premier Division, but they would have been disappointed with their 1-1 draw at Ealandians, given that the hosts had a man sin-binned in the opening minute and another sent off in the 20th.

Ealandians full back, Josh Prestige who had been moved up front, scored a shock opener, as Bede's continuously found it difficult to penetrate the wall of defenders in front of them.

Eventually, they equalised at the last when Tahir Akram headed home a cross. Bede's now have 13 points from nine games, having played more times than anyone else in the division.

A St Bede's official said: “It was a real battle on a mud bath and it would have been extremely harsh had we not taken at least a point from the game.

“We were surprised the game went ahead with standing water on the pitch. We also had five reserves in the starting line up and they were all brilliant. They showed superb application and desire to work despite the conditions.”

Second-bottom Idle slid to a 5-0 Championship defeat at Horsforth St Margaret's Reserves and PFC were replaced at the top by Leeds Medics & Dentists Reserves, who thumped them 6-2.

Finally, Wibsey lost 6-1 at fellow Premier Division side Middleton in the Terry Marfitt Trophy.
