Caldy 50
Otley 12
THERE was little joy for Otley on the Wirral as Caldy notched up 50 points against the Cross Green men on Saturday.
The first 20 minutes gave no indication that Otley would leave Paton Field with nothing, and during that period Otley held their own against a powerful Caldy side.
A lot of the first quarter pay was in the Otley half and when they did break out they looked dangerous.
A high tackle on Alex Beaumont brought his advance to a halt, and from the penalty line-out Otley the visitors moved forward.
After a series and pick and go moves into a rolling maul, Adam Malthouse barrelled his way over and Ben Smith added the conversion.
Caldy hit straight back, as Otley's hands not being where they should have been resulted in a penalty converted by Gavin Roberts.
Five minutes later, Ben Jones went over to make the score 10-7.
Two Caldy tries just before half-time gave the home side a 22-7 lead.
Caldy scored a further three tries before Jack Scott-Paul broke through and although he was tackled, the momentum stayed with Otley and the ball was shipped out to the right hand flank where Paul Petchey scored in the corner.
A further converted try by Caldy three minutes before the full-time whistle ended what was a 'hard day at the office' for Otley.
