TEENAGE talent Mason Greenwood has withdrawn from the England Under-21 squad after picking up a back injury.
The 18-year-old, from Bradford, came on as a second-half substitute for Manchester United in their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday but his fitness has deteriorated since.
It is a shame for Greenwood, who made his first appearance for the U21s against Turkey last month, as he was expected to play a big part in the upcoming games against Slovenia and Austria.
The Wibsey youngster would have been looking to build on his positive start for the Red Devils this season, which has seen him score against Rochdale (Carabao Cup) and Astana (Europa League) at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have confirmed that Greenwood will remain at the Aon Training Complex ahead of the club's next outing, against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, October 20.
