WEST Bowling seized top spot from Ince Rose Bridge in a National Conference League Division Two stormer thanks to a superb 36-14 victory at Emsley's Rec.
Bowling fully deserved their victory and go top by virtue of their better plus minus points tally.
Wests were clearly in the mood for the big game and blew Ince Rose Bridge away in the first ten minutes with 16 unanswered points.
The home side were quickly off the mark when Ben Heald finished neatly to touch down, Harry Williams duly adding the extras.
Centre Max Trueman then extended the advantage with a fine effort to make it 10-0. When Heald then bagged his second of the afternoon, with Williams again on target with the conversion, Ince Rose Bridge knew they were in trouble.
The visitors dug deep, however, and cut Bowling's lead to 16-4 when winger Call Hutches out jumped the defence to take a Kieran Ecciston high ball and score in the corner.
Impressive home forward Richard Lumb then popped up in timely fashion with the first of his brace and Williams once again slotted over the kick to reinstate a more comfortable 22-4 lead.
Ince Rose Bridge showed why they were the league leaders though and once again hit back, this time through lively stand-off Dan Cassidy. Cassidy duly added the extras to put them back in the game at 22-10.
However, Bowling were in no mood to sit back and scored again before half-time when prop Nat Light came off the the bench to crash over. Williams' effort sailed between the sticks and Bowling were 28-10 to the good at the break.
Ince Rose Bridge once again showed their resilience when Cassidy found his way to the line to complete his brace but the subsequent conversion went wide.
Struggling to break down the Bowling defence, the visitors became increasingly frustrated as the second half wore on.
Ince Rose Bridge were then dealt a major blow when influential loose forward Ecciston was sin binned on the hour mark for a swinging arm.
It was fitting that hard-working forward Lumb finally ended the visitors' chance of victory when he cut inside to the posts to touchdown. Williams rounded off the scoring with the conversion and a further penalty goal to secure an excellent Bowling win and leave them sat proudly at the top of the table.
Man of the match went to Bowling hooker Danny Halmshaw.
