WEST Bowling carried out a 62-0 demolition job on bottom side Shaw Cross Sharks in their Division Two National Conference League encounter at Elmsley’s Rec.
Bowling were in front in a matter of minutes when, after setting up the play nicely, the ball flashed through several pairs of hands before Max Trueman crashed over.
It wasn’t long before Bowling were over again, this time Louis Fraser taking a short offload from Ollie Bartle to touch down.
Harry Williams duly added the extras to give the home side a 10-0 advantage.
Three minutes later Fraser was in for his second try when he outsprinted the Shark’s defence down the flank.
Williams was again on target with the boot to convert and, at 16-0, Bowling were already looking comfortable.
Next to get in on the act was Joe Hammond, who found a clear path to the line to score unopposed.
As if to show Bowling’s total dominance, forward Richard Lumb then managed to run over the top of three would be tacklers to crash over.
Williams slotted over the conversion and, at 26-0, there was going to be no way back for the Sharks.
With five minutes to half-time Fraser helped himself to a hat-trick with a super finish and there was still time for Lumb to dive over next to the sticks to get his second of the afternoon.
With Williams converting both tries, Bowling were out of sight at half-time at 38-0.
Half-time did nothing to change the flow of the game and minutes after the restart Bowling extended their lead when Brett Greenwood spun out of a tackle to touchdown, a try Williams happily converted.
Amazingly over 25 minutes then passed before the home side were able to alter the scoreboard again.
It was a try worth waiting for, though, as a lovely cut out ball allowed Trueman to draw the visiting full-back and leave Ben Heald with a clear dash to the line.
Williams’ successful kick brought up the half-century with 10 minutes still to play.
The one-sided affair finished with a further try to Greenwood and a fourth to Fraser, both goaled by Williams.
Former Junior Liam Walker made a welcome return in the second half following his recent stint at Aussie club Balmain Tigers Juniors.
The emphatic win over the Sharks sets up a mouth-watering fixture this week when Bowling welcome leaders Ince Rose Bridge in a battle of the top two.
