WHARFEDALE finished the season on a high note, with a victory in their final game seeing the Greens finish in the top half of National League Two North.
The Greens blanked the Peterborough Lions 29-0 on the final Saturday in April to surpass Otley and Hinckley to finish eighth on 82 points.
"I'll never accept a lower league position, but eighth place was a fair reflection of our efforts this season," said Wharfedale coach Jon Feeley.
"It was a great win and underscores how strong our defence has been this season," said Feeley. "We were third best in the league in terms of tries conceded.
"It highlights the important work that our forwards and defence coach Jon Skurr has done this season, and how important defence is when building a team.
"On field, our defence and fitness is also a reflection of the personnel director of rugby Rob Baldwin has put in place at the club.
"When thinking about this season, two games stand out - the Hull Ionians win at home and the Huddersfield victory away. Those wins displayed what potential this club has moving forward.
When asked why he and Skurr signed new two-year contracts at Wharfedale, Feeley said: "Off the field as head coach, I'm supported by a number of people - the committee, medical staff and the Calvary Club (sponsors) who invest in the club."
Feeley is also very pleased with the players and talent that he has on the field.
He praised the play of several players, most notably George Hedgley, who stepped up to fill in as captain for Richard Rhodes, who has battled injuries for most of the season.
"George was asked to fill that captain's role, and he's led by example in terms of performance.
"Jack Blakeney-Edwards has also been a revelation. Since he's come to the club, he's been a popular member of the team and has put in some fantastic performances to boot."
Feeley has also been pleased with the play of backs Harry Bullough and Rian Hamilton, who came through the club's junior ranks.
Hamilton ran in 11 tries to lead the club, one ahead of Bullough, who ironically set up his teammate's 11th try on the final game of the season with a neat chip through.
Feeley said the club's coaching and management staff have built a platform to help the club finish higher next season and to develop the young players coming through the ranks, which include members of the Wharfedale Colts' side who won the RFU Colts National Cup on Sunday.
