QUEENSBURY put Lindley Swifts to the sword in an impressive display in the Yorkshire Men’s League Premier Division.
Their third game of the season, after a week lay-off, saw them pick up their second win as Bury ran out 54-16 at home to the division’s early strugglers.
Fielding a strong team, the hosts kicked off down the hill looking for a flying start.
But, it was the visitors who looked sharpest around the ruck in the first 10 minutes and the Swifts took Bury by surprise as the home side adjust to the faster pace of the top flight.
A well-worked move and two completed sets saw Lindley first to trouble the scoreboard in the fifth minute, crossing in the corner.
Bury needed to kick-start their game and a lightning spark was provided by Joe Langford who powered through the visitors’ defence five minutes later to get Bury on the score sheet.
The follow-up kick was converted by the returning Robson Moore.
This sprung the home side into action and some big hits from Bury were going in.
Around ten minutes after their first try, Moore helped himself to one as his side upped the pace.
It was followed by a second from Langford.
With Bury in the ascendancy, a further try from wingman Luke Doyle saw them take a 22-4 lead into the break.
If Lindley thought they would come out and take advantage of the slope in the second half though, they were mistaken.
Bury were flying and two further well-worked tries by Luke Doyle to complete his hat-trick took the game away from the visitors.
The Swifts had no answer to the game management of Moore and the faultless and slick interchange of the Bury players.
Further insult to injury was added when Bury moved up yet another gear and ran riot when showcasing their strength in depth.
There were tries from Tom Hainsworth, Stephen Nagy, Billy Naylor and Jimmy Simpson, rounding off 60 solid minutes of play without a dropped ball or incomplete set.
The last five saw Lindley score two consolation tries and both were converted to give the scoreboard a more balanced look.
In reality, it was a day for Bury with a superb display of fast-flowing rugby.
Chris Raftery was voted as Man of the Match for Bury thanks to a faultless display when coming on as dummy half.
This Saturday sees Bury on their travels to Bramley Buffaloes.
