TVR United charged within four points of leaders Golcar United after a third successive victory at the weekend.
There were only three fixtures in the West Riding County Amateur Football League meaning those playing had the chance to mix things up in the table.
With both Golcar and third-placed Littletown out of action - the latter postponed due to a waterlogged pitch - TVR knew a win would take them closer to the division's front runners and nine points clear of Littletown.
They duly delivered in a 2-0 shut-out at home to Lower Hopton.
The hosts were 1-0 to the good at half-time thanks to a 25th minute goal from Ashiq Iqbal and then doubled their lead in the second period with Asif Iqbal scoring just short of 70 minutes.
TVR have played more games than those around them, but points on the board at this stage of the season can be all-important.
Mid-table Steeton Reserves took a trip to Ripponden for their fixture against in-form Ryburn United.
Steeton slipped to another heavy away defeat in this one, conceding nine goals for the third time this season, to lose 9-1.
The visitors were on a good run themselves - unbeaten in six league games - but slack defending but paid to that.
It was a double trouble for Ryburn, as both top-scorer Christian Silkstone and Reece Uttley bagged braces.
There were single goals for Ashton Richardson, Marc Thomson and Bradley Tynan, as well as a goal each for substitutes George Turner and Bradley Waddington.
Steeton's first-half consolation came courtesy of Greig Hudson.
The final fixture saw Route One Rovers beat visitors Toller 2-0, with strikes from Mohammed Alam and Shoab Iqbal.
