IT was a bad day for Silsden and Steeton, with both clubs suffering defeats in their respective divisions of the Hallmark Security League.
Silsden were on a high after ending last year with a 2-0 win at Litherland REMYCA, but their resurgence was short lived as they went down 2-1 at home against Whitchurch Alport.
The visitors broke the deadlock early on as Alex Hughes put them a goal up in the eighth minute. Silsden responded well and Joe Gaughan netted a 15th minute equaliser. The first half remained a tight affair with no more goals added.
It was still a close game in the second half but the visitors edged it and they got their winner midway through when Leon Ashman pounced.
The Cobbydalers had climbed back into the top half of the Premier Division with their win over Litherland but yesterday’s defeat dropped them down to 12th, while Alport climbed to 13th.
Steeton were also beaten by a side below them in the table, as they lost 5-2 at Ashton Town in Division One North.
The Chevrons got off to a dream start as Aaron Hollindrake converted a second minute penalty following a foul on Andy Briggs. But there was little else to cheer as they trailed 3-1 at the break.
Steeton had Guiseley loanee Fletcher Paley between the sticks and his hopes of a clean sheet on debut were dashed midway through the first half when Daley Woods chipped him, with the visitors’ defence appealing for offside.
Bradley Smart put Ashton in front and Woods added his second a few minutes before the break, before claiming his hat-trick early in the second half.
Steve Pearson pulled it back to 4-2 before the hour mark but Dylan Glass was on target in the 81st minute as the home side wrapped up a big win.
The Chevrons dropped one place to 12th while Ashton climbed one place to 15th, still five points behind Roy Mason’s men.
