FARSLEY Celtic had to come from a goal down at lowly Mickleover Sports but their narrow 2-1 victory lifted them up one place to third in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
Dave Syers had returned to the club the day before the game and the former Bradford City and Darlington midfielder started on the bench.
However, he came on and played a central role in the Celts’ winning goal, after he was fouled in the area.
Farsley made all of the running in the first half but had been frustrated by a combination of Mickleover keeper Lewis King and some wasteful finishing.
Just as the first half appeared to be heading for a goalless end, the home side broke the deadlock.
One minute into first half stoppage time, a cross from Ben Turner found Adam Prusa and he volleyed past Celts keeper Kyle Trenerry.
It was Prusa’s first goal for the Sports and a sickening blow for Farsley after they had dominated the first period.
It prompted a change by Celts boss Adam Lakeland. He took off centre back Jack Higgins to get midfielder Syers on, as he switched formation for the start of the second half.
Play restarted after the interval with little change, as chances went wide while King continued to make saves, but Farsley finally levelled minutes before the hour mark.
Dead ball specialist Will Hayhurst curled a free kick around the wall and out of the reach of King.
Syers was then fouled in the area in the 76th minute and Ben Atkinson drilled the resulting spot kick into the bottom corner.
Elsewhere, there was a riveting Yorkshire derby at Tadcaster Albion, as they and Brighouse Town played out a 2-2 draw, a result which kept the clubs in third and fourth places respectively in the Evo-Stik East.
The home side broke the deadlock when Billy Whitehouse ended an excellent flowing move with a clinical finish.
But Brighouse equalised on the half hour mark following another good move, which culminated with Aaron Martin chipping home keeper James Hodges.
Into the second half, Whitehouse turned provider as he charged down a clearance and played a through ball for Joe Lumsden, who slotted past Town keeper Jordan Porter.
The visitors levelled ten minutes from time through Zeph Thomas and they had a superb chance to win it with a stoppage time penalty, but Hodges saved Jack Normanton’s spot kick.
