STEPHEN Darby delivered a heartfelt message to City fans last night at a celebration evening in honour of the former Bantams defender.

An audience of more than 500 - including the current squad and numerous ex-team-mates including Gary Jones, Rory McArdle and James Hanson - packed into the McCall and Hendrie Suite at Valley Parade to pay tribute to Darby.

The 30-year-old had to retire from football in September following the diagnosis he is suffering from motor neurone disease.

Though he was unable to attend, Darby sent a video message in which he admitted he was 'overwhelmed' by support he has received.

As well as expressing his thanks, the former right back said he was "feeling positive and feeling strong" and told the audience: "I hope you know how much Bradford City and Bradford City fans mean to me."

The night also formally marked the launch of new book, 'Who We Are', written by Bantams fan Jason McKeown.

All proceeds from tickets and the event itself were donated to Darby and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
