WYKE Wanderers secured an excellent victory on penalties in the West Yorkshire League Cup, after a thrilling 3-3 draw at Hunslet.

A brace from Karl Fawcett and one from Samuel Digby was not enough to win the game outright, but Wyke held their nerve in sudden death to win 6-5 in the shootout.

Hunslet were favourites heading into the clash, as they sit sixth in the Premier Division, while Wyke are third-bottom.

League form went out of the window for this cup classic though, and the visitors will hope victory can kick start their season.

Wyke’s fellow West Yorkshire Premier Division sides had less cup success. Aidan Barry netted twice for Rawdon Old Boys but they were on the wrong end of a 3-3 draw, losing 7-6 on penalties to Aberford Albion.

Salts are bottom of the league, and their despair shows no sign of abating as they also went down on penalties.They earned a 1-1 draw at Headingley after Thomas Storey’s goal, but went down 4-1 in a disastrous shootout.

Despite Levi Pedder’s first half strike, Field slid to a disappointing 2-1 home defeat against struggling Knaresborough Town, while Oxenhope Recreation were thumped 6-0 at Whitkirk Wanderers.

Ilkley Town bucked the trend, beating Horbury Town 2-0 with goals from Thomas Fleming and James Hudson.

In Division One action, Otley Town recorded a fine 4-1 win at high-flying Hartshead. The sides were level at 0-0 before the break but a fine second half display saw goals for Richard Parry, Bobby Neesam, Mitchal Lambert-Tuthill and Jonnie Unwin.

Pool joined Otley in mid-table security, after a 3-0 victory at bottom side Howden Clough saw Tom Midgley net twice.

Campion moved just a point behind Division Two leaders Glasshougton Rock after they thumped hosts Hunsworth 4-1. Kyle Bingham netted a brace to give his side an eighth win in 10 league games.

John Penn got the only goal as Field Reserves made it 11 wins out of 11 with a 1-0 success at Leeds Modernians Reserves in Alliance Division One.

Meanwhile, struggling Oxenhope Recreation Reserves were desperately unlucky to go down 2-1 at home to a strong Huddersfield Amateur Reserves side.

Rob Houghton, Frederick Pessu and Joe Foley-Corah were all among the goalscorers as Otley Town Reserves maintained second spot in Alliance Division Two with a 6-0 home thrashing of struggling Wyke Wanderers Reserves.

Salts Reserves remain top after Andrew Sadowskyj scored in a narrow 1-0 home win over East End Park Reserves, while rock-bottom Pool Reserves lost 3-1 to Kippax Reserves, despite Adam Dean’s strike.
