JOE Keyes cannot wait to turn his full focus to the Bulls after signing a new two-year deal.

The Ireland international has penned a full-time contract that will tie him to Odsal until the end of the 2020 season.

Keyes, who had been a rumoured target for Halifax, scored 12 tries and 82 goals in the Bulls’ promotion campaign – including a 40-metre finish in the play-off final victory over Workington.

And the half-back is delighted to commit his future to the club as they head back to the Championship by becoming the latest member of John Kear’s squad to switch back to full-time – a move he believes will benefit his fitness.

Keyes said: “It was a fairly difficult transition for me going part time, so I’m really looking forward to my focus being on my rugby and looking after my body.

“I suffered with a few little injuries this year so hopefully the more time I’ll spend at Tong will help me look after myself a bit better.

“Working with John has been great so far. Ever since round one last year it’s always been clear what he wants from me and that’s all you can ask for from a coach.”

Kear has almost sorted his squad for 2019 – with only a spare slot in the centres to fill. Keyes has been impressed with the quality of recruitment as they prepare to build on last season’s promotion.

He said: “There will be a lot of competition for places in the squad, so training will be intense and hopefully this will bring out the best in everyone.

“It was very satisfying lifting that silverware. Having been through some dark times at the club, to see it heading in a positive direction again is something I am very proud to play a small part in.

“I just want to keep on improving and hopefully get some good game time for Ireland, then take that in to pre-season and hopefully a big 2019.”
