MATTY Wildie is excited to be working with John Kear again after joining the Bulls’ Championship push.
The former Featherstone hooker has signed a one-year deal for the 2019 campaign at Odsal to play under his former Wakefield coach.
The 28-year-old made his Super League debut when Kear was in charge and is glad to be reunited with him at the Bulls.
Wildie said: “I’m really happy about it. I had a couple of chats with John over the past six-to-eight weeks and came and had a look at the training facilities.
“Everything about the club really appealed to me and I’m really looking forward to getting started.
“They have a good squad and some good young players as well. Hopefully I can bring some experience to the team and I’m really looking forward to having a good year in the Championship.
“Obviously I have worked with John when I was a young kid at Wakefield and have gave me my Super League debut.
“I have a lot of respect for him and knowing how he works, I just can’t wait to get working with him.”
Wildie becomes the latest arrival in a recruitment drive that has already brought in Jake Webster, Jon Magrin and David Foggin-Johnston.
He added: “It’s a massive coup to get players like Jake in. He is a quality player and he has done a lot in his time.
“He will bring a lot to the club and I hope I can do the same.
“Bradford have been doing some special things in League One. I’m sure they can do it in the Championship as well.
“It’s a big club and they are hoping to get back into where we want to be in Super League.
“If it takes a couple years then so be it, but I’m sure the squad will keep building.”
Kear added: “We are delighted that Matty has decided to join us from Featherstone. I go back a long way with Matty as a 16-year-old at Wakefield and obviously he has progressed through the ranks since then and has firmly established himself as a Championship player.
“We feel that he will add further competition for places within the first team squad with people such as Sam Hallas, Jordan Lilley and George Flanagan.
“Again, it is a key signing with regard to our ambition of achieving a top-five Championship spot.”
