MIKEY Wood has become the Bulls’ first signing since winning promotion.
The loose forward has penned a one-year deal to make the move permanent after impressing during his season-long loan from Huddersfield.
Wood was a regular part of John Kear’s squad with 26 appearances and jumped at the chance to stay with the club for their return to the Championship in 2019.
He said: “I’m over the moon with signing. It’s a club with a lot of history and a great fan base which I am proud to be a part of.
“John is a great coach and he knows a lot about rugby league as you can tell. I’ve loved working with him so far, it’s been a real honour.”
Wood put in another valuable shift in the play-off final win over Workington at Odsal and admitted the atmosphere was special.
“It was an unbelievable feeling last Sunday,” he added. “I think that we deserved to lift that trophy and all of our hard work has really paid off.
“The fans are unbelievable and playing in front of a crowd like that gives you an extra lift during the game, which is a big bonus for us because they never shut up.
“It honestly is crazy the number of fans that turn out to support us. It’s unreal that they are there every week, making up chants for everyone and the games are class because of it.”
Huddersfield legend Eorl Crabtree had described the opportunity to play for the Bulls as the “perfect move” for the young forward.
Crabtree said: “Mikey is one of those players you wouldn’t consider a flash player but someone who is really strong, has very good ability and will do a lot for the side.
“He is someone that you need in the team to do those little bits of work, especially around the middle.”
The Bulls are keen to keep Jy Hitchcox, now he is out of contract at Castleford, and could also be making another signing later this week.
