THE Burton Cup and the Tony Theobould Trophy were up for grabs in the final week of the Bradford League season, and in both matches a double was up for grabs.
In the Theobould final, which is handicapped, Division Four champions Thornbury A faced new boys Baildon E, who were Division Four runners-up.
Thornbury were the only team in the four divisions with a 100 per cent, but the handicap competition is a great leveller and Baildon were dangerous opponents with a 73-point advantage.
Thornbury needed a good start to put Baildon under pressure, and they did just that.
Their No 1 player Kaleem Afzal took the opener against Stephen Hirst by nine points, Mohammed Humzah beat Mick Criddle by 15 points and Paul Wharton had 14 points to spare against Baildon No 1 James Kinsella.
Baildon were not overawed, however, and hit back strongly, winning three of the next four matches, with Kinsella overcoming both Afzal and Humzah.
Thornbury won the last two, but the damage was done and Baildon capped a memorable debut season by taking the silverware 637-617.
In the Burton Cup final, the formbook went to plan as Division One champions Embassy Police A were too strong for Hermits A.
Tim Dyson and John Chew won two each, while Shahriar Masoudi won one.
Sam Clayton took one for Hermits but Police were 5-1 winners to capture another league and cup double.
Bradford League – Division One: Dewsbury Tog A 6 Highdale A 4. Division Two: Fastbats 3 Highdale B 7. Division Three: Baildon B 8 Hermits E 2. Division Four: Hermits H 3 Thornbury A 7.
