PHIL Cawser, from Dewsbury Tog, continued his excellent tournament season by taking two titles at the Northern Masters Veterans in Preston.
The first day saw Cawser and doubles partner Bill Grant from South Yorkshire ease their way to another crown with a 3-0 final victory over number two seeds Simon Heaps from Cheshire and Geoff Salter form Durham.
The 60s singles knock-out stages had a strong entry with top seed Maurice Newman from Leicester, as well Nigel Eckersley from Sussex and Keith Williams from Lancashire, who is still in the top 10 in the 50s age group.
Cawser was seeded number three and came through four rounds before facing Salter in the semi-final and Cawser came through in four games.
Eckersley reached the final in the other half after beating Williams. Cawser lost the first game in the final but took the next three and he must be close to the number one ranking after this success.
Steve Kosmowsky, also from Tog, won the consolation singles in the 50s singles after a 3-2 victory over Samson Bekele.
Meanwhile, in the Bradford League there was a great win for Rastrick over Division Three champions elect Hermits E.
Brian Banks starred for Rastrick with a marathon effort. He came from 2-0 down to pip Chris Town 12-10 in the fifth game and was also two games down against Azim Afzal before taking the next three.
In his final singles he was 2-0 up against Mohammed Murtaza but needed five games to complete his treble. Mick Whitham also went the distance in overcoming Afzal and Town as Rastrick led 5-4.
Banks and Whitham then combined to clinch victory with another five-game effort. The top two teams in Division Four met as unbeaten leaders Thornbury A were at home to Baildon E.
The visitors threatened an upset as they led 3-1 with Michael Criddle, James Kinsella and Stephen Hirst all on the mark. Thornbury had the match-winner however as Kaleem Afzal continued his excellent season by taking three singles in straight games. David Wilson added a couple and these two combined to take the doubles as Thornbury were 6-4 victors.
