LIVERSEDGE edged a seven-goal thriller as they went through to the fourth round of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Cup at the expense of visitors Hall Road Rangers.

It was clear from the off that it was going to be an all-action encounter as Joe Walton’s first-minute opener for Sedge was cancelled out by Josh Batty’s third-minute reply.

The east Yorkshire outfit then took the lead through Danny Norton on the quarter-hour, but the home side had hauled themselves level at the break after Andy Wood netted just over three minutes before half-time.

Rangers put their noses in front again when Chris Spinks scored just seven minutes into the second half but the see-saw nature of the game continued as the home side equalised with just over 20 minutes remaining.

That third goal was neatly lifted over Rangers' keeper by Oliver Dyson - one of two Huddersfield Town Academy players making their Sedge debuts.

Sam Gibson is the other Terriers youngster that has signed for Liversedge.

In drama befitting such a battle, it was a late penalty that tipped the balance, with Sedge getting the spot kick that Brandon Kane confidently dispatched.

The two sides were due to meet at Clayborn on Saturday but it should have been a league game.

However, when the cup tie was postponed last Tuesday the weekend game was switched.

Albion Sports were at home in the top tier and ran out 3-1 winners against lower mid-table rivals Athersley Recreation, thanks to a second- half brace from Danny Facey.

It was the Penguins that broke the deadlock, with Lee Garside netting in the 21st minute, but the visitors led for just six minutes.

Josh Morley hit the Albion Lions’ equaliser before Facey’s match-winning double.

The Lions’ leading scorer netted twice in a five-minute spell early in the second half.

There was no joy for Thackley at fifth-placed Pontefract Collieries though as the home side won 3-1.

The Colls’ former Sedge man Vaughan Redford opened the scoring, and Kieran Scargill doubled their lead before the interval.

Thackley put in a good battling performance against one of the top sides, and there was brief hope for the visitors when joint player-manager Mike Garrod made it 2-1.

He netted from the spot after Luke Robinson was fouled in the area, and although the Dennyboys were probably the better side in that second half, a Kane Reece strike put gloss on the Colls’ win.

The big derby in Division One was a non-starter as Campion's pitch was waterlogged, so Eccleshill United short trip to the @SportsBulk.co.uk Stadium has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, March 14.

Silsden’s player-manager Danny Forrest came off the bench to score a late equaliser as the Hallmark Security League’s Division One leaders salvaged a point from the visit of fourth-placed Prestwich Heys.

The Cobbydalers took the lead through Arley Barnes, but Prestwich’s Alfie Belcher equalised ten minutes later.

The visitors, who, with four games in hand on Silsden, still have title ambitions, were back in front when Danny White netted a spot-kick but Forrest made it 2-2 to ensure his side shared the spoils.
