Stuart McCall wants to see some attacking flair at Halifax on Saturday.

City head to The Shay for their final pre-season game in confident mood after an impressive defensive showing against Blackpool.

However, they are still yet to cut loose offensively, netting just five times in five outings so McCall is keen for his men to develop some cutting edge.

"We're hoping to be a bit more creative in the final third,"

admitted the City chief.

"We've had two tough games against Burnley and Blackpool where I thought we defended very strongly but we need to be looking at opening teams up now, creating chances and scoring some goals.

"We won't take it for granted at Halifax - they'll be tough - but we have to be more incisive. It's our last friendly and our final preparations."

McCall, whose assistant Wayne Jacobs makes a swift return to Halifax, plans on fielding his strongest side.

Joe Colbeck and Darren Williams both return after sitting out the Blackpool fixture with knocks but former Cardiff hitman Peter Thorne won't appear.

The 34-year-old has been nursing a hip problem and McCall said: "We're giving him a few more days. I'm hopeful he'll be ready for next week but he might not.

"It's a long season and for the sake of rushing him back for the first game, I'd rather wait and make sure he plays 40 matches."

Meanwhile, trialist winger Alex Rhodes is set for a second run-out but Xavi Barrau has departed the club for a second time after his brief appearance against Blackpool.

McCall said: "His agent seems to think he'll get something in France so that's over and done with."
