Leeds United have confirmed that Saturday's pre-season friendly against Wigan at Elland Road will go ahead as talks continue with the Football League over the granting of the club's golden share'.

Until the share is forthcoming, United can accept only cash and cheques for advance-ticket sales and are restricted to taking cash only on match days.

The quality of the opposition and the novelty of a home pre-season fixture, after many years of playing such friendlies on opposition grounds, provides plenty of interest.

And with prices at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, United are hoping for a sizeable crowd despite the difficulties surrounding admission to the game.

Experienced defenders Eddie Lewis and Frazer Richardson are ruled out through injury as Dennis Wise's men face a daunting task against the Premiership side, who narrowly escaped relegation last season.

Wigan are managed by Chris Hutchings, who was briefly in charge at City in 2000.

Hutchings could include recent signing Michael Brown, who made a brief debut in the 2-0 midweek win at Barnsley and then scored his first goal for the club in a behind-closed-doors reserve game against Rochdale.

The midfielder, who began his career at Manchester City, spent four years at Sheffield United before moving on to Tottenham and Fulham.

Meanwhile, Stoke have persuaded Richard Cresswell to join them after the United striker's move to Hull fell through on medical grounds.
