BAILDON Trinity Athletic are through to the next round of the West Yorkshire League Cup after a 2-1 win against Hampsthwaite United.
Trinity didn’t start well and were punished in the opening ten minutes as United took the lead but hosts Baildon grew into the match, although their domination didn’t initially result in goals.
However, on the stroke of half-time, Trinity finally breached their opponents' defence when Daniel Jowett's long-range shot hit the underside of the bar and found its way into the net.
Baildon started the second half well, keeping the pressure on, and with the tie heading towards a penalty shoot-out, they finally broke the deadlock with a calm finish by James Pinto.
Trinity thus booked a home tie against Oxenhope Recreation.
In Alliance Division Two, Wyke Wanderers Reserves came away from Hampsthwaite United Reserves with a 6-3 victory.
Wanderers had a shaky opening ten minutes as they tried to adapt to their opponents' 4G pitch, but they got into their stride when the impressive James Acton opened the scoring from close range.
Acton soon scored his second, and Sam Ash added a third.
A sublime chip by Kai Green from 20 yards made it 4-0 but Hampsthwaite hit back with three goals.
However, Acton completed his hat-trick to demoralise United before Waqas Iqbal put the game to bed.
Wyke's secretary Dave Ryan said: “James Action was rightly voted man of the match because of his three goals but there were also some fine performances from James Butterworth and Joe Sagar."
The League Cup tie between Wyke Wanderers and Wetherby Athletic was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch, as was the League Trophy tie between Field Reserves and Huddersfield Amateur Reserves.
