EVO-STIK League Premier Division side Shaw Lane last night announced the appointment of former Brighouse Town boss Paul Quinn as their new manager.
The Ducks are divisional rivals of Farsley Celtic in the top tier of the Evo-Stik League, and Quinn steps up after leading Brighouse into Division One North and pushing for promotion before they ended last season in ninth place, just four points outside the play-off places.
Meanwhile, Silsden are out of this season’s West Riding County Cup after a 2-1 defeat at Evo-Stik League outfit Tadcatser Albion.
The Cobbydalers, who lost their first league game this term at the weekend after 17 straight victories, put in a good display at the Brewers’ i2i Stadium before the home side bagged a late winner.
Danny Forrest’s men suffered an early blow when forward Niall Sultan was forced off through injury after just 18 minutes, Matt Moses taking his place, but they created a couple of chances late in the goalless first half.
The home side were also forced into a substitution, Josh Greening replacing Adam Baker during the interval, and he proved to be a major influence.
Just two minutes after taking the field, Greening forced a mistake from the visitors’ defence and then played the ball through for Cam Murray to net his first goal of the season.
Greening almost got on the scoresheet himself five minutes into the second half, but his effort went just over Callum Jakovlevs’ goal.
Two minutes later, Silsden were level as Taddy’s keeper Greg Hartley could only parry a Kyle Hancock shot and Chris Wademan tucked in the rebound.
The tie remained finely balanced until, with a little under five minutes remaining, Greening claimed another assist when his corner kick was converted by Brewers’ skipper Andy Milne.
Thackley’s home fixture against Worksop Town in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division went the same way as Guiseley’s Vanarama National League game at AFC Fylde as both were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
Weather permitting, tonight’s action promises a derby as Thackley’s local rivals go head to head in the NCEL top tier when Albion Sports host Liversedge.
Kulwinder Sandhu’s Albion Lions and Sedge have not hit their expected targets this term and, like Thackley, are lower mid-table.
A home win for Albion at Throstle Nest would see them leapfrog Sedge, but Jonathan Rimmington’s men have played three games fewer.
The Lions are averaging just over a point per game as they sit in 20thm while Sedge have already banked one point more and are three places higher than their hosts.
