FARSLEY Celtic head to South Shields’ Mariners Park tonight for the second time in a fortnight as the closely-matched sides meet for a third time this season.
The Celts made the journey up to the north east two weeks ago for an Evo-Stik League Cup tie.
That game finished all square, as did last Saturday’s Buildbase FA Trophy tie at Throstle Nest.
The side’s with play to a finish again in tonight’s first qualifying round Trophy replay, and if they cannot be separated after extra-time the hosts, from the lower tier of the Evo-Stik League, will have a psychological edge.
Farsley netted a stoppage-time penalty to level the League Cup tie at 2-2, with Luke Parkin on target, but the Mariners went on to win the resulting penalty shoot-out 4-3.
It was Shields who needed a late spot-kick to salvage something at the Nest at the weekend as Carl Finnigan netted in the last minute.
Although they have conceded home advantage following the Mariners’ deserved late equaliser, the Celts will be hoping to get the job done at the second time of asking in regulation time, and escape another nerve- shredding shoot-out.
The winners will be at Stafford Rangers a week on Saturday.
Thackley also have a big cup tie as they welcome National League FC Halifax Town to the Mitton Group Stadium at Dennyfield for a West Riding County Cup second-round tie.
The Shaymen are four divisions higher up the non-league ladder but are not in the best of form.
That could work one of two ways as boss Billy Heath may elect to give his strongest line-up a run out as they have no scheduled fixture next Saturday.
That would give Heath’s squad a good chance of a confidence-boosting win, or he may use the game to give the fringe players a game to remind the recent starting XI that there are some good players ready to step into the side.
A third cup tie this evening involves Silsden, who head to the west coast to take on AFC Blackpool in the second round of the Hallmark Security League’s Division One Cup.
The Cobbydalers have stormed to the top of the table in the lower tier with their 100 per cent start intact after 14 games, but they have not fared as well in cup competitions, exiting the League Cup and the Buildbase FA Vase after 3-0 defeats.
Liversedge are in league action as they host AFC Mansfield in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division, while in the lower tier Eccleshill United make the journey to Armthorpe Welfare.
